With a bit of forward palnning I'm hoping to visit Canada and the States in September/October, 2013. As a music journalist I would like to see as much opera as possible and I was wondering if you could give me a hint of what might be programmed for that time next year. I know it's a little early but I'd certainly appreciate any feedback you can give me.

Joseph, you have a good point. May I ask - what about art house theaters? The same "auditory assaults" have been happening there for 30 years and it doesn't stop attendees. Personally I prefer any attendees to opera, even under unusual circumstances. Now if this were in the actual opera house? Entirely different issue.

Differences in audience expectation, perspective and experience between the Met Opera’s “Live in HD” broadcasts with attendance at the opera house itself continues to generate lively debate [I’m ready for my close up, Mr Puccini; Zachary Woolfe; NYT 27 Apr 2011]. Both however remain vulnerable to the auditory assaults of whispered conversation, bouts of coughing, sweets being slowly and studiously unwrapped, cell phones ringing, the restlessness of the bored and the strident flickering of the lit screen in the dark. My impression is that movie theaters are far less intent on policing etiquette breaches that intrude into the consciousness of audiences struggling to focus attention on the performance. The front counter sale of plastic glassed wine swishing in ice chips, mammoth containers of pop corn designed to last the distance and requiring slow chewing , and potato chips requiring noisily slow extraction from crinkling bags would probably get short shrift at most opera houses.

Hi!

What about the Castleton Festival, in Castleton, Virginia? I sang there for three summers. High Caliber opera and orchestra perforamances conducted by Lorin Maazel on his 600 acre estate. Lots of fun. Great festival :)

At 44 years old, I have just now discovered the beauty of opera music. I enjoy your station very much, and was wondering if you could recommend an opera for a new listener. I like the big voice Italian operas, 1940's era. Any suggestions?

Thanks for this. They always announce the season the day after Wash BDay. I am Patron so I will renew first thing tomorrow if it comes online. I want to try and print out a calendar so I can put season in order. there are many I want to see. many 2x too. Yet, a few I will pass on

Hi Mr. Brock -

We are in discussions to broadcast Wuthering Heights this June for Bernard Hermann's birthday.

We don't have a date for Silent Night yet, but we hope to do that this year as well.

Thanks
