Seattle Opera Opens Single Tickets Sales for 2010/11 Season
Tristan und Isolde, Lucia di Lammermoor, and Young Artist operas
For Sale Online Beginning May 22
Phone and In-Person Sales Start May 24
May 19—Tickets for several upcoming Seattle Opera productions will go on sale during a web pre-sale on Saturday, May 22. Starting at 9:00 a.m. tickets may be purchased online at seattleopera.org for Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde and Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, two operas in the upcoming season. Subscriptions for the full season, which also includes Rossini’s Barber of Seville, Mozart’s Magic Flute, and the Seattle Opera premiere of Massenet’s Don Quixote, are available now. (Single tickets for these three operas go on sale August 28 online and August 30 by phone.) Tickets for the 2010/11 Young Artists’ productions of Donizetti’s Viva la Mamma! and Mozart’s Don Giovanni also go on sale starting May 22. Phone and in-person sales begin on May 24.
Tristan und Isolde, Wagner’s passionate tale of intense longing, kicks off the 2010/11 season on July 31. This new production marks the first pairing of stage director Peter Kazaras and designer Robert Israel. Under the baton of Seattle Opera’s Principal Guest Conductor Asher Fisch, soprano Annalena Persson makes her company debut as Isolde alongside tenor Clifton Forbis as Tristan. The production also features Margaret Jane Wray, Greer Grimsley, and Stephen Milling. Tristan runs for seven performances from July 31 to August 21.
The tragic romance of Lucia di Lammermoor follows, from October 16 to 30. Donizetti’s dark drama features everything: a clandestine rendezvous, a family feud, an interrupted wedding, and the most famous mad scene in opera. Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak sings Lucia in her company debut, alternating with Davinia Rodriguez. Tenors William Burden and Scott Piper alternate in the role of Lucia’s star-crossed lover, Edgardo. Maestro Bruno Cinquegrani makes his company debuts with this production; Tomer Zvulun, associate director for Seattle Opera’s 2009 Ring, directs.
Tickets for the two productions of the 2010/11 Young Artists Program also go on sale online starting May 22, with phone and in-person sales beginning May 24. The program’s fall touring production, which will be performed in venues across Washington, is Donizetti’s wild farce Viva la Mamma!, a backstage comedy about an opera company preparing a new production. Tickets are on sale for the Friday, November 19, Seattle performance in the Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall. In the spring, the Young Artists will present a fully staged production of Mozart’s Don Giovanni at Bellevue’s Theatre at Meydenbauer Center. Performances are April 1, 3, 7, and 9, 2011. The singers involved in the upcoming season will be announced at the end of the summer; in the meantime, more information about the program can be found at seattleopera.org/affiliates/young/.
Tickets for Tristan und Isolde, Lucia di Lammermoor, Viva la Mamma!, and Don Giovanni can be purchased at seattleopera.org starting May 22. On May 24, phone and in-person sales begin. Tickets may be purchased at Seattle Opera’s ticket office, 1020 John Street (two blocks west of Fairview), or by calling 206.389.7676 or 800.426.1619.
