A Mozart morning and a surprise
This mornings’ opera is Mozarts’ La Clemenza di Tito, with Reni Jacobs/Freiburger Barockorchester & RIAS Kammerchor – Mark Padmore, Alexandrina Pendatchanska, Bernarda Fink, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Sunhae Im, and Sergio Foresti.
I first played LCDT my second year on the air doing FM radio, which was the 250th anniversary of Mozarts’ death, so I played all of his operas in the order they were written. This was actually the last opera he wrote, he started it after he had been composing Die Zauberflote, but finished this one first. It was orginally composed for a castrato to sing Sesto, a role which has become standard rep for many mezzo-sopranos today.
We will be announcing a surprise late tonight or early tomorrow morning – stay tuned!
I can’t seem to find it on Amazon, so here is the score for purchase, and a version of the opera featuring Catherine Malfitano, Eric Tappy, and Kurt Rydl. Remember that every purchase goes to help the station
